Gate City has several board and commissions, made up of citizen volunteers. Some boards are regulatory, others are advisory bodies. The meetings of all boards and commissions are open to the public.
EDARC is tasked with business development and the revitalization of Gate City's downtown. The committee meets the 1st Monday of each month at Town Hall at 6:30 p.m. All meetings of the EDARC are by law open to the public. Committee members include Joe Coates, Jay Dixon, Francis Perry, Rita Tipton, and Harold Willis.
Purpose and Meetings
The purpose of the Gate City Planning Commission is to assist the Gate City Town Council in anticipating and guiding future development and change by preparing plans, ordinances, capital improvement programs, studies, reports, and other documents for consideration by the Town Council.
Members are Michelle Jenkins, Robert Q. Barker, Eric McMurray, Richard Hubbard and Rita Tipton. There are vacancies on the board that need to be filled.
The Gate City Planning Commission meets the first Tuesday of each month at 6 PM at the Town Hall. All meetings of the Planning Commission are open to the public, and include a time for public comment.

The Board of Zoning Appeals is a board that grants Zoning variances, and can uphold or modify decisions made by the Zoning Administrator, who is usually the Town Manager, but may be any person chosen by the Town Council. Read the BZA bylaws.
Members of the BZA are Michael Carrico, Dewey Breeding, Rogers Cassell, John Dockery, with the town clerk acting as Secretary.
This board hears cases where a property owner disagrees with an assessment made by the town's building inspector. Members are Dane McClellan, Ronnie McMurray, Darrell McMurray, Ron Bellamy and Kermit Rhoton.
Members are Jim Craft, Eddie McMillan, Dewey Breeding, and Carl Hurt. The Town Clerk acts as secretary, and Mike Carrico acts as legal advisor. The board sets rates, among other duties.
This committee is formed by a legal agreement between the Town of Gate City and the Gate City Civitan Club, Inc. Its primary purpose is to facilitate the development of the Grogan Park Expansion, which includes adding an outdoor classroom area, a restroom facility, a walking trail and gardens to existing recreational opportunities at Grogan Park. The town is represented on this committee by Francis Perry (Town Council) and Eric McMurray (Planning Commission), while Civitan is currently represented by Richard Hubbard and Eugene McClellan.
