Public Recognition Sign Ordinance
Any marker, monument, sign or notice placed or removed in the Town of Gate
City on public property or upon any public road, street or highway shall not be
placed/removed until the following criteria have been completed:
- Signage must record the historical facts and/or dates of a statewide
politically elected office or higher politically elected office.
- Sign language and/or construction must comply with the regulations
of the Code of Virginia and be in conformity with any applicable zoning
regulations.
- Twenty-five (25) signatures consisting of adult citizens/residents
of the Town of Gate City must be presented to the Town Council to show
support for the sign placement/removal.
- A public hearing shall be held before final approval is given by the
Town Council.
- A final vote of approval must be held by the Town Council.
This ordinance is specifically targeted toward recognition of a person on
municipal signs.
